The Dredge Ponds are a weird place.
Both a potential (maybe) UNESCO World Heritage Site and an industrial park containing active placer mining operations, this a haunting place full of strange shapes and silence. It’s also where I’ve twice run into a bear. Though it has been transformed from a gentle and wide river delta, it is a wild place a few steps from the road. It is very much a labyrinth.
We filmed here in the winter, at night, for a very poignant, personal scene and ran into a animal. The encounter is in the film and I can’t imagine it any other way.
